Mt St Helen's, August 18-20

We spent the weekend at Mt St Helen's, an active volcano-last erupted in 1980.
We spent one day in the blast zone on the North-West side of the mountain looking at the crater and the un-earth-like landscape. The second day was dedicated to the South side of the mountain which was affected much less by the 1980 eruption, we went into the Ape Cave Lava tube (a lava tube was formed when the surface of a lava flow cooled and hardened, but the molten lava beneath the surface continued to flow about 1900 years ago) and into the Lava Canyon which has incredible waterfalls.

It was slightly crowded on the water ( a little less on land) and the show was definitly worth the hour and a half in the sun.

Island Weekend, July 28-30

This weekend we took the ferry first to Orca's Island where we camped for two nights and then to Friday Harbour on San Juan Island where we spent Sunday afternoon.
We saw some whales, visited a Lavender farm (ate some vanilla-lavender ice cream, Mmm...), hiked up and down Mt Constitution, dipped our feet into the very cold and clear waters of the Pacific Ocean and had a great time in general :)
